Oz’s House of the Evil Dead

So, today I went to go have my upper and lower left-side wisdom teeth removed from my head. I’d had the X-rays done, had the prior consultation, everything was set for a ‘wham, bam, thankyou maam’ style procedure. Things never work out that well for me. This time was no different.

I rolled up for my appointment, everything started great. Half my face was numb as the dentist went to work on the lower one. ‘Ouch’ I said (or mumbled, it’s hard to speak when you can’t feel half your mouth). I got a strange look from both the dentist and his assistant. They injected me with more drugs and decided to do the top one first instead. I started to shake. Not from fear – I didn’t even realise I was doing it until the doctor said “put your arm out flat for me” and i watched my hand jitter like Michael J. Fox (cruel, I agree, but Back 2 The Future was pwn and I couldn’t help it, I’ll blame the drugs).

So, aparantly the shakes are a normal side-effect, it just meant I had low blood-sugar. A cup and a half of warm lemonade and we were back in business. The top tooth popped out after a good hard yank, and everyone seemed relieved. Back to the bottom one. It wasn’t straight, so they were chopping through it with the saw when I said ‘ouch’ again. This time they really did stop everything, patched up whatever holes they made and let me chill out for about 20mins.

After a quick discussion – basically I shouldn’t have been feeling any pain at all as they had used 1.5x the normal dose to anesthetize my lower jaw. Something odd was going on, so they decided to stop and see what they could find out rather than just risk going forward.

So, now I have a gaping hole in my upper jaw (which doesn’t really hurt at all), and my lower jaw feels like Mike Tyson has beaten the crap out of me. I also have a lovely chipmunk cheek look going on, but only on half my face…
