Fanfest 09 – What do you mean I look like my avatar

by Oz on Oct.03, 2009, under Eve Online

The day dawned, much bacon & eggs were eaten. CSM’s goon delegates had arrived and were waiting with a log in trap at breakfast. We all met up and headed over to the Fanfest Site, I managed to meet Trzzbk and The Mittani along the way.

We arrived only to find a massive queue of evenerds waiting to get in, someone correctly pointed out that it looked like a star wars convention. The Amarr RPers wearing robes probably helped with that, they looked like jedi.

Being CSM, I decided I was a VIP and thus could skip the line – I did. Why people line up fr things I have no idea, but as soon as a broke with ‘convention’ and just walked in, the line became a lot less orderly. CSM had it’s own little registration section, so we got our loot bags quickly as well as some beer and food tokens.

We hung around for a bit, met a few people (all wearing black) and then we headed in for a morning of CSM meetings – A discussion on the recent ISD incident and a ‘fix this stuff’ back and forth with the entire Mission department. Official duties done, I went and mingled until some roundtable action.

Again, being CSM, I could walk into/out of anything I wanted without having to sign up. I abused this power without remorse. The first roundtable I went to check out was about Fiction Writing. Lots of familiar faces in there including the guy who wrote Clear Skies and of course Roc and Shae. Special shoutout to Sham/Raem (you might remember him as being the guy that lost the Impoc in the alliance tourney) – was nice to see him again since the last time we met 4 years ago.

After grabbing some lunch with Abathur, Palli and Ollie (BDCI represent!), I wandered off to check out a few more talks/roundtables, ran a live agent mission pretty much solely for the reason that there was an extremely attractive woman who was drawing tattoos on people’s faces (I got a Gallente one on my forehead), bid on a few items in the silent auction, and generally talked to a lot of people.

Just before the Alliance panel started, I managed to abuse my CSM powers once again to get a 10minute slot at the end of the PvP Tourney – I challenged Roc to a Celebrity Death Match t1 Frigate fight. It was an epic of skill and bravery that ended up with him at half shield and me at 80% armour and no audience and CCP Claw just wanting to get everyone out. Roc won by popular vote.

Alliance panel was interesting until Darius JOHNSON did the goon presentation. I can’t really describe the insanity that it involved, you need to wait until it appears on youtube.

Fanfest 09 – What Day is it?

by Oz on Oct.01, 2009, under CCP Games, Council of Stellar Management, Eve Online

So, 37hours it took from my door to the lobby of the hotel. I didn’t sleep for any of it. I managed to get from the airport to the hotel via a nicely aranaged ‘driver’ from CCP. There was me, a couple of GM’s and some media people. I’m sure if I knew what planet I was on I probably would have conversed more with them instead of just nodding and grunting, but meh.

Anyway, I scraped the clothes off, had a quick shower and went and grabbed some food with Dierdra, Meissa, Ankhesentakempahthisisgoingtogetretarded, LaVista, TornSoul, Alienhand, and another guy who’s name I can’t remember. He said something about being crazy.

After dinner – the Veto 8-Ball Tourney was on. There was also a few tables set tot he side for people who wanted to play poker. I missed out on the pool registration (probably a good thing), but signed up for the 100mil buy-in poker table. It was soon realised that I was the only non-Veto member playing at that table. We had fun and Veto is probably buying a replacement battleship with the isk I lost.

Other notable names (that I remember) at the party include: Verone, Roc Weiler (of Capsuleer fame, I asked for and he gave me, a signed picture of himself), Shae (from Hellcats), StevieSG, CCP Hammerhead, CCP Sessionchange, CCP Dropbear, CCP Molock and a whole heap of Veto, Goons, PL, CVA, and other random evil/nerdy looking people.

I eventually had to go pass out, but I took pictures

CSM 3 Iceland Trip: Day -1. “To beat death, you’ve got to know death.”

by Oz on Sep.04, 2009, under CCP Games, Council of Stellar Management, Eve Online, Personal

elpresidenteOk, I’m using quotes for the next few days to show this is srs bsns. First person to comment with the name of the film, the character in the film that said the quote, and the year the film was released gets a prize of some sort.

So, today was my R&R day, that stands for recovery and reconnaissance. After a massive 4 hours of sleep (thanks jetlag), I wandered down to a breakfast of cheese, ham, cucumber and bacon. mmmmmm bacon. No-one else seemed to be around, so I went back upstairs, burnt some skin off my arm before I remembered how the showers worked, got dressed in my finest tshirt and trundled off to CCP Hq.

We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they’re called memories. Some take us forward, they’re called dreams.

spiral-clock My semi-namesake Jeremy Irons said that. It’s pretty insightful and useful for a entry title since I haven’t updated this thing in almost a month (again). Sorry for anyone that hangs out to see my latest posts (all 1 of you). So yeah, this entry is all about catching up with what has been going on and what is coming up.

Eve/CSM:

Well, in general eve news I haven’t really been up to much. I run the odd mission here and there and train skills, but I’ve pretty much been spending most of my eve time doing the CSM thing. In case I’ve forgotten to tell people, I’m the Vice-Chair of CSM 3.  Things have been kind of running smoothly, as expected the learning curve for the new CSM’s has been a little steep, but I think everyone is getting the hang of it. I’m not particularly happy with the quantity of the issues being raised (meaning 3+ hour meetings starting at 2am my time), but that should thin out a little as we get through the annoying little issues and move onto the bigger ones.
